The night was dark, cloudy. Not a star shining in the sky as a fire crackled cheerfully, keeping the monsters that would overtake their meager campsite away. Everyone was asleep, save for the two charged with keeping watch for that part of the night. The redhead sat on a log, poking the fire with a stick as a small blue creature danced quietly around the happy blaze. The redhead was clearly bored, his only source of entertainment the blue creature before him.
“Master, you should come dance with me,” he said cheerfully.
“Why,” the Master asked disdainfully.
The blue creature waddled over to his Master, a determined look on his face. “Because Master should be happy too.”
The Master looked at him with an annoyed look on his face. “I’m perfectly happy Thing!”
“Master doesn’t look happy,” he stated simply.
It was a blunt statement but it was the truth. Something was bothering the Master and the servant was keen to observe it. Thieves or monsters could attack the group of travelers at any time and the Master wasn’t alert to his surroundings. Instead, he sat there, poking at the fire with a brooding expression planted firmly about his features.
“What does dancing have to do with my being happy?”
“Dancing makes you forget your worries,” the servant replied while giving a spin as an example.
“Shut up, Thing!” The Master snapped. “It doesn’t matter if I’m happy or sad if the world might end.”
“But Master –“
“Shut up!”
“But you’ll wake –“
“SHUT UP!” The Master shouted, green eyes flashing in anger, body becoming rigid as he stood up abruptly. Black and white clothing shuffled into place as the Master towered above the Servant. The Servant, clearly crestfallen waddled over to a bedroll where a head of sand-coloured hair and ice-blue eyes was frowning at the duo.
“Luke,” she intervened in a stern voice indicative of finality. The Master -- now named Luke -- knew better than to argue. “Be quiet.”
